Chesterfield drug addict caught shoplifting on CCTV

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Shaun Adrian Svilts, 45, of Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, was spotted taking three jars of coffee valued at £19.74 from the Chesterfield store.

Prosecuting solicitor Gillian Foxcroft told the hearing on December 2: “He was arrested after being detained in Asda after CCTV showed him taking three jars of coffee but they were recovered.”

Svilts pleaded guilty to the theft which happened in July.

Defence solicitor David Gittins said Svilts is a drug addict but is taking medication to stop the desire to take drugs.

Magistrates sentenced Svilts to a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay a £150 courts charge and £19.74 compensation.
