CHESTERFIELD: Hospital vows to take food action after report

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) ordered the Calow hospital to improve after finding that patients were not protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration.

The watchdog identified cases where people did not receive appropriate support about how much they needed to eat and drink to meet their needs.

Hospital chiefs said they fully accepted the findings and were working towards raising standards ahead of the imminent publication of a final report on the issue.

Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins said: “Patients deserve better.”

Gavin Boyle, Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s chief executive, said: “We fully accept the CQC’s findings.

“Although a final report has not yet been issued we’re taking these concerns very seriously and have already begun to make changes.

“We are taking action to improve how meals are served on the ward, the support given to patients who need it and the assessment and care of patients who are at risk of not eating enough.”
