An army of big-hearted fundraisers will take part in this year’s Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The 5km run gets underway at the town hall at 10.30am and the weather looks set to be mainly dry and cool.

Sarah Threadgall, Race for Life event manager, said: “I feel so grateful to everyone taking part and to all those who are supporting them.

“What better way to fight cancer than by raising funds to beat the disease.”

Last year, 1,915 participants raised £106,035. Organisers hope this year’s event will net £125,000.

Derbyshire Times reporter Michael Broomhead is covering the event and a report, pictures and video will be uploaded to our website later – so keep checking!
