Felicity Clarke, defending, said: “From what her boyfriend said, they were trying to get the ladders so they could get into his address so they could get in through a window without having to go through the property past his mother.”

Miss Clarke explained Ashmore had begun a chaotic lifestyle after she had left her family home and had started drinking.

Ashmore pleaded guilty to attempted theft from a vehicle which was committed in June. She also pleaded guilty to stealing lager from the Spar, at Littlemoor, in May. The court heard how she has previous convictions for assault and being drunk and disorderly. Magistrates sentenced Ashmore to a six month community order and she must pay £24 compensation. Her partner was jailed for 28 days.
