Chesterfield town centre reveller caught with cocaine

A reveller who was caught with cocaine at a Chesterfield town centre nightspot has been ordered to pay £215 in fines and costs.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Friday, November 7, how James Bevan, 22, of Hillside, Stretton, near Alfreton, was caught and searched in the Evolution bar, in Chesterfield.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “He was in the bar and searched and a small amount of cocaine with a street value of £40 was found.

“He accepts he had originally purchased 1.5grammes of the drug.”

Bevan, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to possessing 1.2grammes of the class A drug after the incident on October 24.

Bevan, who represented himself, told the court: “It was a big mistake and I can only apologise for my actions.”

Magistrates fined Bevan £110 and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
