Edwina Currie, president of Tideswell Male Voice Choir, praised performers who helped to raise hundreds of pounds for the care of teenage cancer victims. The former politician attended her first engagement at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel, the night after attending the final of television’s Strictly Come Dancing in which she was a contestant.
She said of the Christmas Spectacular concert: “The music was great, the sound from the band marvellous, the children’s choir a delight, Tilly superb and of course Tideswell MVC at their finest. I am very proud to be their new president.
“All the children took part and they were word perfect. Their teacher deserves high praise.”
“Strictly is now over for another year but 2011 was a record-breaking series and I was delighted to be a small part of it. Like the concert, it has great live music and wonderful people giving their utmost for our pleasure.”
Edwina attended the concert with her husband, John Jones. She said: “We are hoping my husband will join the choir but he’s feeling a bit shy at present.”
