Woodworm issues are to blame for the state of the flag on top of a Ripley town centre church.
The ladder leading to the tower at All Saints’ Church, Church Street, Ripley, has woodworm, making it impossible to get to the flag, which is now in a poor state.
This week the church apologised for the poor condition of the flag, but said health and safety reasons due to woodworm affecting the ladder were to blame.
Church warden Elaine Joel said: “We would like to apologise to the town for the poor condition of the flag.”
However specialists were due at the church tomorrow, April 25, to deal with the problem, she said.
