Cloudy and breezy day for Derbyshire as Storm Desmond still causes difficulties

The Met Office has forecast a cloudy and breezy start for Sunday, December 6, across Derbyshire and the East Midlands.

Through the morning patchy rain or showers will be expected but conditions, according to the Met Office, will be better in the East Midlands after the impact of Storm Desmond on the region on Saturday.

Storm Desmond’s strong winds and rain are however continuing to cause difficulties across the north of England.

The Woodhead Pass on A628, which was closed yesterday by the Highways Agency to high-sided vehicles, is officially closed today, Sunday, December 6.

The Highways Agency stated earlier this morning that the A628 Woodhead Pass in both directions between the A616 at Flouch in South Yorkshire and the A57 at Hollingworth, Greater Manchester, is closed due to the strong winds.

Winds should ease by the afternoon across the East Midlands and it should become mainly dry and bright by mid-afternoon.

Conditions in the East Midlands in the morning should be mild, according to the Met Office, but it should start to feel fresher in the afternoon as rain clears.

By tonight, the Met Office forecasts a dry start for the region but it should become cloudy with rain spreading south in the late evening. The rainfall is expected to become light by the early hours of Monday.

Temperatures could reach as high as 12 degrees centigrade, according to the Met Office, on December 6, and lows of about seven degrees centigrade.
