Club brews up £1,000 for new care centre

Generous supporters of a coffee morning have raised a whopping £1,000 towards the building of a new cancer support centre.

The event was organised by Clay Cross Probus Club at the town’s Methodist Church.

David Smith, branch president, and Graham Marshall, branch treasurer, presented a cheque for the proceeds of the coffee morning to an area representative of Macmillan.

The Macmillan Cancer Support Centre is to built at the Royal Hospital in Calow and will enable patients to receive their vital treatment, care and support in one purpose-built facility.

Currently cancer care and treatment is given from different clinics across the hospital site and the chemotherapy unit is no longer large enough for the number of patients it sees.

The new centre will enable specialist teams to provide a range of appointments in one place – including all out-patient chemotherapy and clinical haematology. The centre will also include a specialist information and advice service.

Fundraisers are organising events in aid of the new centre with hopes that it will be open next year.
