A WATER POLO team is hoping to make a splash at a charity swimming event.
Eleven members from Matlock Water Polo Club have each set themselves the daunting task of swimming one mile in Lake Windermere as part of the Great North Swim.
The event will take place on June 23 and the team will be doing it to raise money for Derbyshire-based charity, the Tiny Tim Trust.
The charity was set up in 1984 and provides equipment and resources to children in Derbyshire with special needs.
Colin Ingley, chairman of the water polo club, said: “We wanted to do this for charity and help the local community.
“The Tiny Tim Trust come forward so we decided to keep it local and give them our support.”
The dedicated team has been training extra hard to take on the challenge – doing laps of the outdoor unheated swimming pool at the New Bath Hotel, in Matlock Bath, in a bid to get used to lower temperatures.
Anyone interested in sponsoring the Matlock Water Polo Club is urged to call Colin on 07814711372.
