Commemorative rail trip marks WW1 centenary

The Wirksworth Royal British Legion joined forces with Ecclesbourne Valley Railway to commemorate the centenary of the beginning of World War One.

The railway operated a special passenger service during Monday with 50per cent of all fares being donated to the Legion.

Passengers enjoyed rides on the steam engine Henry Ellison which was decked with poppies and the Legion flag.

Visitors to Wirksworth Station included MP Patrick McLoughlin, Secretary of State for Transport and Member of Parliament for the Derbyshire Dales.

The day was extremely successful, attracting many visitors who enjoyed the sunshine and the many attractions and stalls.
