budding young artists have the chance to win a beautifully illustrated book in our great art competition.

We’ve teamed up with organisers of the Matlock Summer Festival to encourage kids under the age of ten to be creative and draw or paint a picture of a dragon.

The one judged the best will win the beautifully illustrated book Dr Drake’s Comprehensive Compendium of Dragonology.

Kids should write their name, age and contact telephone number on the back of the drawing before handing it in at the ‘Off With the Fairies’ Encampment at the festival, in Hall Leys Park, by 2pm, on Saturday, July 21.

The winner will be announced later that afternoon.

Organised by the Market Square Group with the support of Derbyshire Dales District Council, the Matlock Summer Festival festival will be held in Hall Leys Park, from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd July and will feature the colourful World Village Market, a programme of musical entertainment, plus face painting, storytelling and workshops for children.

The Group’s Paul Kennedy said: “Our World Village Market features ethically-traded fashion, accessories, foods and unique gift ideas from across the globe.

“ From colourful bags and accessories from Afghanistan to Latin American knitwear and from tasty Caribbean delights to posh pork pies, this unique festival-style street market features an eclectic range of eco-friendly arts, crafts, clothing, accessories and tasty treats from all over the world.”

The market will offer visitors a fabulous range of unusual ideas including hand printed and hand embroidered textile products from India, silk scarves, silver and amber jewellery, Balinese handicrafts and wind mobiles, plus stained and fuse glass home wares.

A programme of live music is planned including classical violinist, Andrew Hubbard, close harmony girl group, Tripliquette, local singer/songwriter, Josh Kemp plus band music from the park’s bandstand.

Children will be entertained by colourful troupe ‘Off with the Fairies’ who will provide storytelling, face painting and magical workshops throughout the three day event.
