Confidence lost as recession continues

BUSINESS minds across Derbyshire are fearful that the county’s economy is still in recession – a reality that is likely to have a negative impact on confidence.

Commenting on the Q2 2012 GDP figures released by the Office for National Statistics, George Cowcher, Chief Executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The GDP figures that have been announced are much worse than expected and paint a gloomy picture of the state of the UK economy.”

Mr Cowcher added that rolling back unnecessary red tape, widening the A453, upgrading the Nottingham Rail Station and making sure that £140bn worth of new lending reaches businesses as quickly as possible would be ‘a good place to start’.
