Cookshop takes over historic town building

After a year of trading from Bakewell’s Hebden Court, Bakewell Cookshop has moved to the former Skidmore’s building in Matlock Street.

The new store, occupying the Grade II listed building, offers shoppers nearly 1000 square feet of high quality cookware, including Sheffield Made knives, design led gifts and kitchen essentials.

Owners Mark Pilkington and David Kidd started bakewellcookshop.com in 2012 from their offices on Ashford Road.

Since then the business has gone from strength to strength. After opening their first store in Spring 2013, they quickly realised they needed a much larger shop.

“The minute we saw the new premises on Matlock Street up for sale, we were hooked. The quality of the restoration undertaken by the previous owner was remarkable and offered the perfect space for the fantastic products we’ve already garnered a reputation for selling” said Mark.

“It’s been obvious from the response we’ve had while getting the store ready that we’ve made the right choice. I’m confident we have one of the best spots in the town,” David added. “We are so grateful for the feedback we’ve received so far from local customers and traders”.

Bakewell mayor Paul Morgans formally opened the store on Sunday, and to thank the town for its support, the store donated a percentage of the opening day’s takings to Bakewell–based charity Helen’s Trust.
