Councillors at High Peak Borough Council’s development control committee meeting in Chapel-en-le-Frith on Monday voted unanimously to reject two applications to retain a changing room, storage buildings, an animal shelter and a polytunnel on land adjacent to Overlea Farm.

Members heard that the site was within the North West Derbyshire Green Belt and contained four alpacas, four pigs, three horses and a number of chickens. The authority received four letters of objection on the grounds that the road is unsuitable for extra traffic, anti-social behaviour and impact on residential amenity. Applicant Wendy Martin stated that the changing room would be used as a classroom for small group instruction on animal care and horticulture. Enforcement action will be taken to remove the buildings.
