Council starts search for community heroes

The search is on for people in the area who make a difference – as Derbyshire Dales District Council launches its community heroes award.

The chairman of the council Jennifer Radford is inviting nominations for this year’s Chairman’s Community Award Scheme.

Cllr Radford said: “There are so many people who make a real difference in Dales life and an extra special contribution to their communities. We want to hear about them.

“That’s why we are appealing for information about people who deserves recognition for their selfless dedication to helping others. For example, they may raise money for charity or good causes, give up their time for the local community or be a young person dedicated to the care of an older family member.

“The district council wants to recognise their efforts on behalf of the communities they serve.”

Individuals or groups can be nominated for awards. Last year’s winners included the Hartington Young People’s Activity Club, which provides a programme of sporting activities for children and young people in the village of Hartington.

The award ceremony will take place at Matlock town hall, on Thursday March 10. The closing date for nominations is Friday February 11.
