County caves in to Shirland protest

COUNCIL bosses have given in to the requests of protesters for an assessment of bus route which is due for the chop.

Highways officials from Derbyshire County Council have agreed to carry out the assessment of the route between Mickley and Shirland after a hundred-strong crowd of people walked the proposed route children will have to take after the free bus service is withdrawn after Easter.

The route involves children from Mickley either crossing the busy A61 or going down two busy country lanes in order to get to school.

Highways officials have agreed to carry out an assessment of the route on March 22.
