County council ignore residents’ petition

Derbyshire County Council have ignored requests from Cromford residents to implement parking restrictions on a cul-de-sac in the village because there have been no accidents – yet.

Residents on Tor View Rise, Cromford, had petitioned for parking restrictions to be implemented amid fears that the situation was an “accident waiting to happen”.

Campaigners were also concerned about access for larger vehicles – such as waste disposal lorries .

But at a meeting of the Highways and Transport Committee on Tuesday, April 16, Derbyshire County Council members decided that “no further action” would be taken.

A planning officer report stated that, while parked vans were “annoying” for residents, there had been “no recorded incidents” of offences being committed.

The reports also stated that as there had been “no recorded accidents” on the road – or on The Hill near the junction with Tor View Rise – in the last three years, the authority did not accept the residents’ claims that the situation was an accident waiting to happen.

The authority also decided that a residents’ parking scheme – which had been proposed by campaigners – was not viable as it would need to include all streets in the area.

“Consequently, residents of other roads would still be able to park on Tor View Rise,” the report states.
