Couple retires after 25 years of running Matlock deli

A husband and wife team have thrown in their aprons after more than two decades of running a delicatessen.

After running the Greedy Pig, in Smedley Street, Matlock, for 25 years, Valerie ‘Val’ Duffield, 57, and her husband Clive, 59, have retired.

Over the years, the couple has built up a loyal customer base.

Val said: “I’d just like to thank all the customers for their loyalty and support over the years.”

Val worked in the shop front serving customers, while Clive worked in the back baking.

She said: “We have always prided ourselves on the fact that if we weren’t going to sit down and eat our produce ourselves, we wouldn’t be selling it.”

The pair, who come from Matlock, already have plenty planned for their retirement.

Val will be looking after her 11–month–old grandson Mason and Clive may get a part time job.

The business is under the new ownership of James and Carly Shaw, who will be running it as a husband and wife team.

Val said many of her loyal customers had already wished the couple well in their retirement.

She continued: “We give many thanks for all the gifts and cards we have received.

“It has been a privilege to serve one and all over the years and we also wish all the best to James and Carly for the future.”
