Car crashes on a major road have caused traffic chaos during rush hour in Derbyshire this morning (April 28).

Emergency services were called to two collisions, involving five vehicles, on the A617 near Temple Normanton junction before 9am.

Police were first called to a collision between a Ford Fiesta and Seat Leon at around 8.35am.

This caused major tailbacks along the road, before another accident took place.

Three cars, a Toyota Yaris, a Ford Focus and a Seat Attea, were involved in a collision at around 9am.

A police spokesman said part of the road has been blocked off because of the accident.

He said: “People should avoid the area if possible.”

Paramedics were called to the scene but the condition of any potential casualties is currently unknown.
