Creamery gets cheesy


A Matlock creamery hopes to stir up some dairy delight as it relaunches a famous Peak cheese.

Hartington Creamery has been established by a group of entrepreneurs at Pike Hall Farm, near Matlock, following the closure of the Hartington Dairy three years ago.

The business is being run by Simon Davidson, of the Cheese Factor, Chesterfield, cheese makers Adrian Cartlidge and Alan Salt and owners of the Hartington Cheese Shop Gary and Claire Millner.

Simon said: “Hartington Creamery has risen from the ashes this year and it is now looking forward to a busy festive season.

“We’re passionate about cheese making and reinstating cheese production in Hartington as there have been no cheese factories operating in the county since the closure of the Hartington Dairy in May 2009.”

The Hartington Dairy was first established by the Duke of Devonshire in the 1870s.
