He had been given a conditional discharge for shoplifting and possession of cannabis at High Peak Magistrates’ Court in August 2013, which he was in breach of by committing these offences, Mr Cooper said.

Sassen, 38, of Stanley Road, Whalley Range, Manchester, admitted the offences.

Estelle Parkhouse, defending, said Sassen was hoping to get a place on a residential detox programme.

She added: “He has mental health issues and is self medicating with alcohol and cannabis. You are dealing with somebody who is a talented artist.”

Sassen was jailed for a total of 15 weeks.
