Armed police called after man seen with 'gun' in Chesterfield

Armed police were called to Chesterfield after reports that a man was in possession of a hand gun.

Derbyshire police's armed response unit was scrambled to the scene but the weapon turned out to be a BB gun.

Officers tweeted: “Turned out to be a BB gun, which he was testing before he took it fishing with him....we were puzzled with that explanation.

“He was arrested for 16a offence. It may be a BB gun but could you tell in a split second?”
