CHESTERFIELD: Ladder of love lands couple in court

COURT: Court Case
COURT: Court Case

AN AMOROUS boyfriend and girlfriend attempted to steal ladders as they tried to climb through the man’s window and avoid passing his mother.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday, July 15, how Emma Ashmore, 25, of Gloucester Road, Chesterfield, and her boyfriend attempted to steal the ladders from a vehicle.

Becky Mahon, prosecuting, said: “Witnesses saw a male and a female run and hide. Residents told them to move on and a witness saw them return and saw a male loosening a set of ladders.”

Police were called and both were stopped at the scene.

Felicity Clarke, defending, said: “From what her boyfriend said, they were trying to get the ladders so they could get into his address so they could get in through a window without having to go through the property past his mother.”

Miss Clarke explained Ashmore had begun a chaotic lifestyle after she had left her family home and had started drinking.

Ashmore pleaded guilty to attempted theft from a vehicle which was committed in June. She also pleaded guilty to stealing lager from the Spar, at Littlemoor, in May. The court heard how she has previous convictions for assault and being drunk and disorderly. Magistrates sentenced Ashmore to a six month community order and she must pay £24 compensation. Her partner was jailed for 28 days.
