Officers from the Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team took to Facebook on Wednesday to warn of an heightened police presence in the Tansley area due to the reports.

But, yesterday they revealed that a group of seven young people were caught having met on a playing field to ‘drink beer’.

They said: “Following reports of youths breaking Covid guidelines in the last few days, patrols were conducted in the Tansley area.

“No, you still are not allowed to meet in groups of 7s and drink beer on the Fete playing fields in Tansley, but one of them did inform us that he's not 44 so wouldn't have seen out previous Facebook post pre-warning of our increased patrols in the area. All over the age of 18.”

Police have now issued a warning to parents of children under the age of 18 who are breaching Covid rules.

They added: “We have also had to remind groups of children about the lockdown rules and educate them on why they shouldn't be walking the streets in big groups.

“The majority of people are abiding by lockdown rules and we appreciate that it's hard for children, especially when they want to see their friends (and they’ve spent all day with them!) but please remind them of the Government guidelines of meeting people outdoors and reassure them it won’t be long before they can socialise in larger groups outside.

“If your child in under 18, it is you, as the parent/carer who will get the fine.”
