Oliver Bland appeared before Derby Crown Court on Friday, October 2, after admitting the offence at Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court earlier this year.

The 25-year-old, of Model Village, Creswell, had a previous suspended sentence for his part in smuggling drugs into Doncaster Prison, imposed by Sheffield Crown Court in 2017, which he was still subject to at the time of the offence.

Prosecuting, Sarah Allen said: “The defendant pleaded guilty in the lower court and was committed here for sentence. The police were called and his address was searched and 72.8 grammes of cannabis was recovered.

“He is 25 years of age and has a conviction from 2017 from Sheffield Crown Court for his role in bringing 102 oxymethalone tablets into Doncaster prison.”

The Crown offered no evidence on charges of possession with intent to supply and production of a Class B Drug.

The defendant’s father, Phillip Bland, 58, of the same address had previously been given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years for related matters, the court heard.

Sentencing Bland to six months in prison, suspended for two years, Judge Robert Egbuna said: “If you appear before me again during the period of your suspended sentence you will go to prison - you have been warned. If you commit any drugs offences you will come before me and you will go to prison. Stay out of trouble or you will be the author of your own misfortune.”
