Derbyshire Constabulary issued the warning on Friday after they were alerted by a Swadlincote resident who had been targeted by the scammers.

The person said they received a call from a mobile number telling them they had made a purchase on Amazon for several hundred pounds and that, if they hung up, they would be charged directly to their card.

Luckily, the victim ended the call after realising it was a scam and no money was taken from their account.

Officers in Derbyshire said that anyone who receives a call of this nature should hang up, check with their bank that no unauthorised transactions have been made and report the scam call to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or by visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk/reporting-fraud-and-cyber-crime.
