Insurance dodger just released by police

A MATLOCK man was caught driving without insurance just after being released from the police station for the same offence.

Mohamed Mounir Almi was arrested by police on February 16 on a different matter and police checks found he was not insured to drive a Citroen C4 car he had been using, prosecutor John Cooper told High Peak Magistrates Court.

The car was registered to his wife Michelle and Almi had lied to police about its whereabouts. At the police station Almi was told he was not allowed to drive the car so he needed to arrange a lift home.

He said his wife was picking him up when he was released just after 1.10am, on February 17.

But police officers saw him driving the car shortly after 2am the same morning so arrested him.

Almi, 30, of Mettesford, Matlock, admitted two charges of using a vehicle without insurance. He was banned from driving for six months, fined £100 and ordered to pay a £15 surcharge and £85 costs.
