A white Vauxhall Corsa then went past and the men inside the car shouted racial abuse at one of the firefighters.

Clive Stanbrook, area manager at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, said: “Our firefighters are part of the community – there to help people when it’s most needed, often in extremely challenging and dangerous conditions.

“To hear that the crew at Staveley, specifically one of our BAME colleagues, was subject to such racial abuse is appalling.

“This is totally unacceptable behaviour at any time, towards anyone and in any circumstance.”
