The phone was traced to a pub in Derbyshire and officers swooped the next day and arrested Doyle.

Doyle, of no fixed address, admitted rape and theft at Nottingham Crown Court and on Friday and he was jailed for nine-and-a-half years.

Detective Inspector Gareth Harding, of Nottinghamshire’s Public Protection Team, said: “Doyle’s actions on that evening were predatory and despicable.

“He approached a young woman and forced himself on her.

“Good police work allowed us to locate Doyle and make an arrest after the phone he stole from the victim was found to be in his possession.

“I’d like to commend the victim for their bravery throughout this investigation and hope today’s result brings them some closure.”
