Police thank drivers for 'staying home' as Dales roads 'much quieter'

Derbyshire police teams thanked motorists for ‘staying home’ after roads in Dales towns were ‘much quieter’ this weekend.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit officers patrolled to help colleagues in the Matlock area, yesterday (Saturday, March 6).

Amid news of Covid restrictions soon to ease and better weather the Dales had been busy with drivers last weekend.

In a Tweet, on Saturday night (March 6) Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said: “We’ve had officers tasked today to assist Matlock Safer Neighbourhood and the Dales Response teams after Dales towns were swamped last weekend.

"This weekend it was much better. Thanks for staying home - the end of lockdown is in sight now.”

The Dales response officers and staff cover the Derbyshire Dales, including Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell, Tideswell and surrounding towns and villages.

Also Tweeting, the Dales Response team posted “Matlock Bath. Very different scenes from last weekend. Thank you for your assistance Derbyshire Road Policing Unit and thank you to the public for staying home.”
