A shoplifter who goaded a security guard by saying “catch me if you can” has been fined and ordered to pay £173.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Friday how Simon Williams, 33, of Carr Lane, Dronfield Woodhouse, was spotted by the guard at Sainsbury’s concealing a bottle of wine and he followed him into the car park.
Becky Allsop, prosecuting, said: “The guard saw him conceal the wine in his clothing and followed him until he handed it back and drove off. The registration was taken and Williams was identified from CCTV.
“He told police he was annoyed with the guard and took the wine and said come and get me.”
Williams pleaded guilty to the theft which happened in May.
John Wilford, defending, said Greaves said, “catch me if you can” and he handed the bottle back.
Williams was fined £73 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
