Curtain’s up as group revives Matlock’s panto past

A theatrical group of residents are hoping to bring a little sparkle to the dark winter months by giving Matlock its very own pantomime.

The group has formed a production company and is now appealing for Dales folk to help them put on its first show in February next year.

Dave Heptonstall, a local director and member of the group, said: “Many of the surrounding towns and villages have their own pantomimes but Matlock has not put on a full–scale show for many years. I’m sure there will be much interest in this venture and I look forward to helping with the project.”

Dave Miller, a founding member of the company, said: “We are looking for people to join us in this amateur pantomime group, not just as actors but also as back–stage staff, wardrobe, props, stage management, lighting, set design, musicians and singers. We are intending to form a steering committee to include a business manager.”

The production will be Cinderella and will be held in the Pavilion, Matlock Bath.

Anyone interested in taking part is invited to attend a meeting on February 21 at 7.30pm in the Imperial Rooms, in Imperial Road, Matlock.
