At a recent public meeting, discussing the proposed Derwent Valley Cycleway, a lady from Darley Dale commented, “I shall be retiring soon and I would love to cycle into Matlock with my young grandchildren, but I would not dare take them along the A6”.
The proposed route through Darley Bridge is part of an exciting 70 mile circular, largely traffic free, route which will link up local shopping centres, places of work and schools, as well as joining up the existing stunning scenic routes of the Monsal and High Peak Trails.
There are bound to be difficulties here and there, but not doing it means that the rest of us are deprived of an excellent facility by a few ‘nimbys’.
The road (A6) traffic is only going to increase in years to come, so how does Geoff Gee (Matlock Mercury, March 1) suggest that the lady quoted above cycles into Matlock with her small grandchildren whilst they are still young and realises her ‘dream’? Which is shared by a great many ordinary residents of this area.
