Cycling group lead planting project in town

The path was laid down early last year alongside the A6, from Sainsbury’s roundabout to Arc Leisure, by Derbyshire County Council and many of the bulbs already there did not survive the trauma.

Clyde Hinton, who leads the volunteer rangers, said: “This was a first shot at replacing them and we are looking forward to the dazzling floral display next spring.

“The path already gets good use by cyclists, pedestrians, dog-walkers and wheelchairs and it is expected that it will link to the nearly-completed multi-user path which will run alongside the railway from Matlock to Rowsley.

“The White Peak Rangers will be running a programme of led cycle rides for the public in the Peak District in 2017 which they hope to be advertising in the near future. Keep an eye out for these rides!

“Thanks to everyone who took part in the planting, including John Owen, David and Catherine from our group, Les and Ian from the Derby Rangers, Barbara from Matlock in Bloom and Claire O’Reilly of Derbyshire County Council. We look forward to seeing the fruits of our labours next spring.”

The White Peak Sustrans Volunteer Rangers, which has been led by Clyde since 2013, has had an extremely busy year.
