Officers from the town’s Safer Neighbourhood Team will be setting up shop at Halfords next month to speak to cyclists about the steps that they can take to better protect their property from criminals.

They will also be on hand to security mike bikes for free.

PC Rachel Baggaley, from the Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Security marking a bike not only deters thieves but also helps us to quickly return it to the rightful owner if it is lost or stolen and then later recovered.

“We will be at Halfords to security mark bikes and also answer any questions and offer security questions.

“I would encourage anyone who may have got a new bike for Christmas, or purchased one for their children, to bring them along on the day. We look forward to seeing you there.”

The event will take place at Halfords on the Waterside Retail Park, Ashbourne, between 11am and 2pm on Sunday, February 7.
