Dales householders to pay just 50p a day for services

Homeowners will pay an annual bill of £189.66 for Derbyshire Dales District Council’s services which include waste and recycling collections and parks maintenence.

The council tax freeze comes as the authority faces another year of cuts in Government funding.

The district council – which has saved £4m over the last ten years – needs to make additional savings of £1.2m by 2015.

Those savings will be made through a combination of measures including reducing employee costs and sharing services.

District council leader Cllr Lewis Rose said: “Every year it gets tougher to balance the books.

“However, I am delighted that we have managed to make significant progress in several areas, such as topping 1,000 new affordable homes for local people in just ten years, securing over £51m new housing investment and supporting 208 companies and helping to create 95 local jobs since launching our free business advice service at the end of 2011.”

A rise in the budgets of Derbyshire police and some local parish and town councils will mean a small increase in overall council tax for Dales residents in the coming year.
