Dales man’s tour of duty

A FORMER Bakewell school pupil is doing his duty by Queen and country in Afghanistan.

Senior aircraftsman Ben Cook, who attended Lady Manners School, is now on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan with Royal Air Force.

The 25–year–old serves on legendary 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron based at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, Scotland.

He is responsible for loading and re–arming the many weapons systems and defensive aids on the Tornado aircraft.

Ben said: “It is a real privilege to serve two tours on 617 Squadron.

“Undoubtedly, one of the highlights was watching Chesterfield lift the cup.”

He is expected to return to the UK in July where he will be ensuring that the Tornado’s of 617 Squadron is operating at its peak performance.
