Dales school protected against crime

A Dales junior school has been marked with a special anti-burglary fluid to protect it from thieves.

Bradwell Junior School received free SmartWater kits, which will be used to mark valuable items with a high-tech UV fluid.

The kits have been provided by the Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, led by police and Derbyshire Dales District Council, as part of a wider crime prevention initiative.

PC Ian Richardson from the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team visited the school on Tuesday, June 18 and helped mark property.

SmartWater is a fluid that contains a unique code and can be identified under UV light and helps police reunite the owner with those items if they are stolen and recovered.

It can be used to link a criminal with a crime scene, as the unique codes transfer to skin and clothing as well.

Signs informing people that SmartWater is in use have also been put up around the school to deter would-be burglars.
