People are being urged to put their favourite Derbyshire person on the map by voting for a blue plaque scheme.
And some Dales residents are in contention for the honour.
Judges have revealed the 12-strong shortlist of the county’s great and good and now it’s up to people to ensure their favourite is given a blue plaque by voting online or by post.
Those nominated include Derby Telegraph founder Llewellyn Jewitt of Winster, world-renowned engineer Sir Joseph Whitworth of Oakerthorpe and Darley Dale, Little Grey Rabbit author Alison Uttley of Cromford and Dethick and the man regarded as the man who made Matlock, John Smedley.
Voting is now open and can be done online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/blueplaques
All votes must be in by Monday, August 8. Once the votes are counted, the six with the most votes will be selected to have a blue plaque put up in their honour. Results will be announced in September.
