Deputy Chief Constable urges residents to be vigilant following Manchester attack

The Deputy Chief Constable of Derbyshire Constabulary, Peter Goodman, has urged the public to remain vigilant following a suspected terrorist attack in Manchester.

Twenty two people were killed and more than 50 injured when an explosion took place in the foyer of the MEN Arena just after 10.30pm.

An investigation is ongoing but police are treating it as a terrorist attack.

Mr Goodman said: “Our deepest sympathies go to the families and friends of those killed and injured in this terrible attack and our thoughts are with the first responders who went to the aid of those at the arena.

“We are ready to help our colleagues at Greater Manchester Police if they need our support.

“We remain on high alert in Derbyshire and I would ask everyone to be vigilant as always. Be aware of your surroundings and report anything suspicious, be that a vehicle, package or person. We can work together to fight terrorism and make our communities safer.”
