This good news comes as young people begin to think about their future following the release of GCSE results, and as the unemployment rate for 16-24 year olds in the East Midlands hits 18per cent.

Claire Golding, Regional Sales Manager at learndirect, said: “Apprenticeships provide a fantastic way to earn money, gain valuable work experience and come away with qualifications which provide the foundation for a great future. “What’s more, vacancies are available in a variety of sectors, meaning there are lots of options for school leavers in Derbyshire looking to kick start their dream career.”

Apprenticeships offer a number of benefits, including:

The opportunity to work and study at the same time - allowing an apprentice to gain qualifications and experience whilst getting paid

They allow applicants to learn skills directly relevant to their chosen career

Formal qualifications which allow apprentices to go on to study at a higher level in future

Paid holiday and other perks just like any other employee

Claire added: “If you’re under 18, Apprenticeships are fully funded, which means you don’t have to pay to develop your skills. We would encourage any young person who is looking for work and interested in learning to get in touch.”
