Derbyshire carers have been celebrating after a positive year

More than 300 Derbyshire carers and their families flocked to be part of a seasonal celebration at the Crooked Spire in Chesterfield.

This Derbyshire Carers’ Association’s special event offered carers a golden opportunity to meet other carers and DCA staff from across the county, old friends and new, in an informal and relaxed setting. Attended by the Rev Patrick Coleman, Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins, the Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield and many other civic leaders, there were readings, a school choir singing carols, live jazz, poems all celebrating carers and the positive impact they make.

Attendees were then treated to refreshments and mince pies and the chance to mingle in a seasonal setting.

Joan, a Chesterfield carer, said: “We loved it today and enjoyed meeting new friends in a lovely venue.”

DCA CEO Narinder Sharma added: “What better way of celebrating carers at this time of year than by holding this very special celebration service. This event has raised the profile of the tireless work carers do.”
