DERBYSHIRE: Cuts are simply too much, say councils

Six Derbyshire councils have joined forces to lobby the Coalition Government for a fair deal for Derbyshire − after shock new figures suggested further cuts were in the pipeline.

Derbyshire County Council leader Cllr Anne Western is leading the campaign to reduce massive spending cuts faced by the authorities after data indicated further savings on top of those announced in June.

Anne Western, together with the leaders of NE Derbyshire District Council, Chesterfield Borough Council, Bolsover District Council, High Peak Borough Council and Derby City Council, has sent a joint letter to Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles to request an urgent meeting.

Cllr Western said: “Enough is enough – we can’t keep taking hit after hit.

“And we have no guarantee that this is the end of the cuts imposed by the Coalition Government.”
