Derbyshire Dales animal–lover hosts birthday bash to help Romanian dogs

An animal–lover is celebrating her birthday by doing her best to try and save 450 dogs from being euthanised.

Vikki Edwards–Slann will be holding the ‘Matlock Meet Up’, a fun day on Saturday October 18, at her home in Pikehall to raise money to help the animals, which are under threat of being put to sleep in Valcea, in Romania, due to lack of space in kennels.

Vikki, who turns 44 on October 14, cares for four foster children with her husband Mark. She has already rescued one of the dogs herself – Karinna, who is now healthy after arriving in this country in an emaciated state.

She explained that a temporary shelter has been set up in Essex for the Romanian dogs to be rehomed, however money is needed to get them over to this country.

The Matlock Meet Up will feature a fun dog show, various activities including a bouncy castle, face painting, football shoot out, stalls, raffle and tombola. There will also be a barbecue and a bar.

The event starts at 10am at Mouldridge, in Pikehall, and will be clearly signposted from the A6012.

Vikki asked that anyone who wanted to help bring a tin or bag of dog food for the hungry pooches. She also requested that anyone with a marquee, tent, gazebo, portable toilets or bouncy castle they were willing to let her use for the event contact her on 01335 390535.
