Derbyshire firefighters taking part in charity swim

On Sunday 1 July, 12 individuals from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) will be taking part in the Great Manchester Swim, taking place at Salford Quays, Manchester in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity.

Firefighters, control room operators, community safety officers and support staff, most of whom have never swum in open water before, and certainly not the one mile distance set before them, are gearing themselves up for the daunting task that lies ahead.

Training is already on-going, sponsorship is being sought, and a few hardy souls have already braved open water swims at Barton Marina, Barton under Needwood, courtesy of Derby Triathlon Club.

Louise Brown, Senior HR Partner for DFRS said “This is a great opportunity to not only raise money for the Firefighters charity, but also to get fit and have some fun. For me this is a big personal challenge, but because I’m doing it as part of a team I’m enjoying the training and I’m really looking forward to the event”.
