Derbyshire police catch drug offender

A man has been jailed for two-and-a-half years after Derbyshire police stopped a car he was driving and found drugs inside.

Derby Crown Court heard on Tuesday, February 11, how Tom Carey, 23, was sentenced to a total of 30 months after he pleaded guilty to possessing diamorphine, two lots of cathinone derivative and possessing MDMA with the intent to supply.

Officers were on patrol in Dronfield on the night of April 29 when they saw Volvo driving through the town.

They decided to stop and check the car as there had been several burglaries in the area and pulled the vehicle was pulled over on Lea Road.

The car smelled of cannabis, according to police, and Carey was taken to Dronfield police station and searched.

Drugs were found in the car and at Carey’s house, in Norton Lane, Sheffield.
