Police have offered reassurance to the public following reports of alleged dog thefts in the north of the county.

During the last week officers have become aware of Facebook messages that refer to a van that has been seen in the area, which is linked to dog thefts. Several people have also reported their concerns directly to officers.

Police have made enquiries and can now confirm that the van has not been seen in the county in recent weeks and the allegations of theft are unfounded.

However, dog owners should always keep their animals under control to prevent any potential theft or loss.

Anyone who has any information about crime can contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 or if a crime is in progress on 999.
