Derbyshire pub site could be turned into hotel

GIGI Developments Ltd wants permission from the Peak District National Park Authority to transform the old Rising Sun near Bamford into a 'high-quality' 78-bedroom hotel.

The hotel - which would include a bar and restaurant and outdoor seating - would create 55 full-time jobs in addition to those created during construction, according to developers.

The three or four-star hotel would be run by an independent operator and aimed at visitors to the Peak District.

Scott Royal, of GIGI Developments Limited, said: "With increasing numbers of 'staycation' visitors and overseas tourists, there is a need for further visitor accommodation in the Peak District.

"Our proposals will add more choice to the accommodation offer while regenerating a derelict site, creating new jobs and boosting the local economy.

"We have engaged with local representatives and the parish council and have made amendments to the scheme as a result, including increasing the number of disabled car parking spaces."

There would be 117 car parking spaces with seven disabled spaces and 24 cycle parking spaces.

A spokesperson for GIGI Developments Ltd said: "Sensitively designed by local architects Peak Architects, the purpose-built hotel will be sympathetic to its surroundings and position in the Peak District and set in generous new landscaping.

"If approved, the development would regenerate this eyesore site that has lain derelict since the Rising Sun pub closed 18 months ago following years of financial difficulty."

The spokesperson added: "The building will be built bespoke for an operator, who will run the hotel and restaurant.

"A deal is currently being concluded with this operator, who are an independent company."
