For three days the station was turned from a Victorian gothic country gem into a 1980’s urban British station and renamed “Maythorpe.”

The change was brought about as part of the filming of ITV’s new series “Brief Encounters”.

The six-part series, described as a fresh, frank and funny new comedy drama, is scheduled to be broadcast in July.

As part of the filming process all station signs, furniture and lighting were completely replaced with 1980’s substitutes causing considerable confusion to Peak Rail passengers and visitors alike.

A spokesperson said: “When the film crews and actors descended for evening and night time shoots, the place was hardly recognisable.

“The car park was packed with vehicles for cameras, lighting and power and the station waiting rooms housed actors, extras, technicians, make-up crews and dressers for the shoot.”

Produced by BAFTA award-winning indie CPL Productions, Brief Encounters is created and written by Fay Rusling and Oriane Messina (Green Wing, Me & Mrs Jones).

The plot revolves around the lives of four ordinary women, their husbands, mothers, families and community.

Their lives are turned around when they become Ann Summers party plan saleswomen.

After all the excitement, Darley Dale Station was returned to the quiet splendour of the steam age as the crews departed.

Jamie Muirhead, CPL Location Manager, said: “Our shoot at Darley Dale was an enjoyable experience.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Peak Rail and all the local residents for their hospitality, patience and support.”

Stars of the series include Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey, Dr Who, The Borrowers), Sophie Rundle (Dickensian, The Bletchley Circle) and Samuel Edward-Cook (Land Girls, Peaky Blinders).
